Big Steve Day 2025: A Celebration of Life, Friendship, and Giving Back

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, more than 80 golfers, friends, and family gathered at Stony Creek Golf Course in Oak Lawn, Illinois, for the Third Annual Big Steve Day Golf Outing — a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and purpose. This annual event honors the life and spirit of Steve Walsh, Jr., whose memory continues to bring people together to raise awareness and funds for EHE.

What began as a tribute among friends has grown into a powerful tradition. Each year, the Big Steve Day team channels their love for Steve into action — hosting a full day of golf, games, food, drink, and plenty of smiles — all while raising funds to advance EHE research. This year’s outing was another tremendous success, generating $5,000 for the EHE Foundation.

In announcing the donation, the organizers shared:

“One of the greatest things about life is the people we meet as we pass through. We truly feel like Steve left us with the best of the best. This group, for three years now, has come together in Steve’s memory not only to raise money for EHE – an ultra-rare sarcoma cancer, but to raise awareness, and together we keep Steve’s memory alive.”

Reflecting on the group’s generosity, Maggie Cameron, Director of Development and Communication, said.

“We are profoundly grateful to the Steve Walsh Jr. Foundation for EHE Research for their continued generosity and dedication. Their ongoing support has fueled vital EHE research and raised awareness in the most meaningful way—by honoring Steve’s life and legacy. We are inspired by their commitment and truly thankful for their partnership in advancing progress and hope for everyone affected by EHE.”

Big Steve Day is more than a fundraiser — it’s a celebration of life, love, and the lasting impact one person can have on a community. Through this annual event, Steve’s memory continues to inspire hope and drive progress toward a future where EHE is treatable, and ultimately, curable.
