The EHE Foundation is proud to announce the addition of two new members to our Board of Directors: Hollace D. Leppert, DO, FACOI, and Krista Sheeley, BSN, RN. Both bring extensive healthcare experience, leadership, and passion to our mission. We are excited to welcome them to the EHE Foundation and look forward to their insight, expertise, and guidance as we continue to grow in our mission and work to improve outcomes for people with epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) through education, research, and advocacy.
Krista Sheeley, BSN, RN
Krista’s dedication to the EHE community began when her son, Drew, was diagnosed with EHE in 2024. Since that time, she has become a passionate advocate, raising awareness through local fundraising and education efforts and standing firmly alongside other families affected by this rare disease.
Krista joins the EHE Foundation Board of Directors with more than 23 years of clinical healthcare experience. Throughout her career, she has held a variety of nursing leadership roles within acute care settings, including Emergency Room Charge Nurse, RN Educator and Preceptor, Utilization Management Manager, Clinical Risk Specialist, and Clinical Care Leader for Case Management and Utilization Management.
Krista has successfully led numerous healthcare initiatives, most notably spearheading a collaborative project to improve surgical care transitions. This initiative earned first place at her local hospital’s Performance Improvement Symposium, reflecting her commitment to safe, efficient, and effective patient care.
With a deep passion for patient safety and quality of care, Krista is dedicated to motivating healthcare professionals to prioritize patient well-being across care settings. She has extensive expertise in evaluating medical necessity, serving as a critical liaison among healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients. Her work strikes a balance between patient needs, clinical strategies, and insurance coverage guidelines.
In addition, Krista has over 12 years of experience analyzing medical necessity denials and advocating for both patients and hospitals by appealing inappropriate denial decisions. Her leadership and advocacy skills are a valuable asset to The EHE Foundation’s mission of improving patient outcomes and supporting the EHE community.
Hollace D. Leppert, DO, FACOI
Dr. Leppert joins the EHE Foundation Board with over 30 years of experience in internal medicine and medical education. A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, she earned Magna Cum Laude honors before receiving her Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1989.
Following graduation, Dr. Leppert completed a rotating internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital and a residency at Parkview Hospital, both in Philadelphia. Her time at Parkview was particularly formative, as she later served as both Medical Director and Director of Medical Education. During her tenure, she was recognized as the Most Compassionate Clinician for four consecutive years and was honored as Clinical Teacher of the Year seven times. It was also at Parkview where Dr. Leppert formed a lasting connection with John McFadden, then Chief Nursing Officer, who would later play a pivotal role in the fight against EHE.
Dr. Leppert maintained a thriving private practice for more than a decade, providing care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including the ICU. After Parkview’s closure in 2001, she relocated to Florida and became a partner at Internal Medicine Associates (IMA), where she cared for a large geriatric population. She continued practicing internal medicine after IMA was acquired by Millennium Physicians Group in 2020, and later retired in September 2024.
In 2009, while at IMA, Dr. Leppert played a key role in facilitating John McFadden’s early diagnosis of EHE. Her ongoing friendship with John, coupled with her firsthand experience of the critical importance of early detection and the team approach to best treatment options, has fueled her dedication to advancing research, raising awareness, and supporting the mission of the EHE Foundation.
We are honored to have Dr. Leppert and Ms. Sheeley join our Board of Directors, bringing their expertise and passion to the EHE Foundation. Their leadership enhances our capacity to drive research, support patients, and raise awareness of EHE worldwide.
