YAP/TAZ & TEAD: At the Crossroads of Cancer
Each summer, researchers gather in Telluride, Colorado, to discuss the Hippo-YAP/TAZ-TEAD pathway in human disease. This year, the EHE Foundation was in the room.
A short film from YAP/TAZ and TEAD: At the Crossroads of Cancer, Telluride, Colorado. Produced, directed, and edited by Joy Weinberg.
Why a meeting about a cell signaling pathway matters for EHE
This is not a meeting about EHE, yet EHE sits close to its center. The gene fusions that define EHE, TAZ-CAMTA1 and YAP1-TFE3, act directly on the transcriptional machinery these scientists are working to target. That puts EHE in front of researchers who might otherwise never encounter it.
Hosted by the Telluride Science and Innovation Center and organized by Drs. Guy Weinberg and John Lamar, the workshop is built for exchange rather than presentation. Mornings are given to rigorous science sessions. Afternoons are given to informal "walks in the woods," where conversations continue against the backdrop of the San Juan Mountains. Some of the most productive exchanges of the week take place on those trails.
What we saw in Telluride
“"What I saw firsthand was a genuinely collaborative community. Researchers shared unpublished findings, questioned one another's assumptions, and left with new ideas and collaborations."
Denise RobinsonExecutive Director, EHE Foundation
What the EHE Foundation funds
The EHE Foundation does not host this workshop. We directly support and collaborate with the leading scientists who attend this forum. Dr. John Lamar's laboratory holds a multi-year EHE Foundation research grant, and Sarah McMullan, an early-career scientist in his laboratory, holds an Early Investigator Grant that allowed her to attend and present her work. Drs. Munir Tanas, Brian Rubin, and Sandro Pasquali also attend, along with others whose work is making EHE breakthroughs possible. Their presence puts EHE front and center in cancer research.
The foundational work you cannot see
This early science that leads to treatments is largely invisible. It takes place in laboratories and in conversations that happen off the page, years before it becomes a clinical trial or an approved therapy.
Your gift to the EHE Foundation puts EHE on the agenda where important science is studied, and brings early-career scientists to the table. This is where collaborations become life-changing progress for people affected by EHE.
Every gift supports innovative science with high potential to improve patients’ lives, including EHE Foundation research grants, Early Investigator Grants, the EHE Biobank, and the EHE Global Patient Registry.

Remember Someone You Love
A tribute page is a place for a legacy to endure, where photos, stories, and the details worth holding onto can live. It gives family and friends somewhere to gather around a person's memory, and a way to turn that memory into research that will change what an EHE diagnosis means.
You can add to it over time. Share it whenever it feels right, on a birthday, an anniversary, or the day you just want people to remember with you.
