Big Steve Day IV Raises $10,000 for EHE Research & Awareness

Big Steve Day 2026

For the fourth year, family and friends of Steve Walsh, Jr. gathered for Big Steve Day, an annual golf outing held in his memory by the Steve Walsh, Jr. Foundation for EHE Research & Awareness. Steve was diagnosed with EHE in late 2022 and passed away on September 22, 2023, at the age of 35, just 10 months after his diagnosis. This year’s event raised $10,000 for the EHE Foundation, bringing the Walsh Foundation’s total giving over four years to $45,000.

Stony Creek Golf Course in Oak Lawn, Illinois, hosted the event, welcoming 20 foursomes and nearly 100 people to the after-party. Beggars Pizza donated the food, and house band, The Partheimers, played a Grateful Dead set.

What began as a golf outing has grown into an annual reunion, a day of stories and friendship among the many people Steve touched. Golfers, sponsors, raffle donors, volunteers, and families return year after year, making this special day an annual tradition for many. The organizers extend special thanks to Rich Lewandowski and the team at Breaker Press, Dan Reilly, and Luke Mullaney for their long-standing commitment to the event.

“Steve left us far too soon, but he also left us with something incredible, which is each other.

EHE Foundation is deeply grateful to the Walsh family and to everyone who has made Big Steve Day possible over the past four years. In Steve’s memory, they have built a day that brings people together and turns that connection into lasting support for EHE research. Their generosity, year after year, reflects a commitment to people affected by EHE that we do not take for granted. In an ultra-rare cancer like EHE, progress depends on communities like this one, and we are honored to stand alongside them.

Fund EHE Your Way

Big Steve Day started with people who wanted to honor someone they loved by doing something they enjoyed together. Your fundraiser can start the same way. With Fund EHE Your Way, you can turn a hobby, tradition, or gathering you already love into support for people affected by EHE. A golf outing, a bake sale, a trivia night, or a Facebook birthday fundraiser all make a difference, whether you raise $100 or $10,000.

You do not have to plan it alone. The new Fund EHE Your Way Toolkit walks you through each stage of your fundraiser, from shaping your idea and building a timeline to promoting your event and thanking your supporters. Maggie Cameron, our Director of Development & Communications, is here to help you plan and host a successful event, and she would love to hear your idea. Reach her at [email protected], or visit Fund EHE Your Way to find inspiration and register your fundraiser.

Do what you love. Do it for EHE.
